The Corner Store: where all the kangaroos hang out

I’m sitting at the Corner Store. Not the one down the street from home, the one at Cameron Corner, where three states meet: New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia. I’m not sure which state I’m in, or should that be what state I’m in. And I drove the Strzelecki and Old Strzelecki tracks to …

Wilcannia, emus, goats, but no kangaroos

Goats. There are millions of goats roaming outback Australia. And I saw a lot of them today. As you do when you’re outback, I was keeping an eye out for animals. I really wanted to see kangaroos and emus (without running into them with the car), but what I saw were goats. Everywhere, there were …

Day 1 – 735k Wollongong to Cobar Along with antibiotics and pain killers for the front tooth I had removed yesterday, and unable to talk properly because of the brand new plate in my mouth. A good start to the trip!

Drawers for the back of my Suzuki should be delivered next week, I’ve ordered the snorkel, and – most important – the fridge has been serviced. It’s finally happening – my solo outback trip.

4WD on Stockton Beach – with gopro

OK, so yesterday I wrote about all the rubbish on Stockton Beach. But it’s not all rubbish and bad news. There’s also long stretches of white sand, dunes, sea birds, the deepest blue ocean, a shipwreck, and, bizarrely, houses in the middle of the dunes. The Stockton Beach sand dunes have been used for a …

Attention 4WDers – DO THE RIGHT THING

Doc and I went to Port Stephens on the weekend. This was part of my Christmas present from him – a long weekend away with sun, ocean, restaurants and bars, sun, beach, relaxing and more ocean. And 4WDing along the beach of course. Hmm, maybe it wasn’t just my Christmas present?

Murray River memories

There were a few things about the Murray River that I wasn’t expecting. And some that I should have. And some that were everything I could have wanted.

All the Rivers Run – our trip up the Murray River

For anybody who’s read All the Rivers Run, or seen the mini-series, a trip along the Murray is a must. Having decided that’s how we were travelling back from Adelaide to Sydney, we set off to start the trip at Swan Reach in South Australia, and drive up river until we turned off, up along …

Grey Fergies to the rescue at the Murray-Darling junction

Did you know the Grey Fergie saved Wentworth? No. Neither did I. I’m not sure if that’s bad marketing by the town of Wentworth, or if it’s something wrong with me. But Doc knew. Or perhaps that’s just him – after all, we do have a grey Fergie in our backyard!
