Go west young family, and avoid the traffic

We’re back on the farm. And after reading about the traffic heading north (or at least stuck on the Pacific Highway facing north), I’m glad we come this way. Heading west there were very few other cars on the road, and definitely no traffic jams.

To market, to market – with travel photography

I’m very excited about selling my photographs on canvasses at some Christmas markets in November and December. While these markets are in NSW, if you do want any photos before Christmas let me know asap and I can get them sent them to you.

Back at the farm – and back in the hammock

I’m lying in my hammock looking up at the sun through the blossoms on the pine tree. And watching the air dance with yellow pollen blown on the wind. It’s a spectacular sight, and I wish I was poetic enough to capture it in words. When I’ve got my eyes open that is. We’re back …

When the fog lifts, it makes way for spring

Spring is definitely on the way, even if the weather doesn’t always feel like it. The seasons seem to be more marked out in the country, perhaps because you’re surrounded by nature. We woke up Saturday morning, the fire in the room had gone out and I was cold. It was early enough for the …

Running away is not the same as getting away

We were back on the farm last weekend. Usually that’s a good thing. Doc loves going to the farm. It’s where he relaxes and recharges, but this time it was an attempt to run away. I should have known better – because, of course, things didn’t go smoothly! Doc has been going through some shit …

The Mighty Murrumbidgee … and thousands of white cockatoos

I love this country, in all its moods. When a drought breaks in Australia, it really breaks. Our farm is on the Murrumbidgee, one of Australia’s mighty rivers. It’s even called the Mighty Murrumbidgee. For a number of years it has been just a thin trickle, a shadow of its “Mighty” self. When we drive …

Starry, starry, night … followed by a blanket of fog

Doc and I took my oldest daughter to the farm with us for the weekend. That’s the oldest child – the one who thinks she was a tomboy growing up and is ‘outdoorsy’ now. How do children have these memories? She went through a phase when she was ten years old where she had a …

The day of the (dead) triffids

It’s a boy thing, isn’t it? This playing with big machines. They’re out there now – my new partner and his 16 year old son. In the tractor and happy as pigs in shit.

I think I shot the Easter Bunny

I had a recurring nightmare when my children were young. I used to dream that I forgot Christmas. This ranged from dreaming I’d forgotten to put the Santa presents out, through to dreaming that I forgot Christmas all together. No decorations, no presents, no Christmas dinner. Nothing.
